Introduction
Most plant care advice on the internet assumes that every Monstera is the same.
But your Monstera isn’t growing in the same pot, the same soil, the same temperature, or even the same room as mine.
Yet most plant apps still give everyone the same reminders and the same care instructions.
That never made sense to me.
As a plant owner myself, I learned that plants don’t live in textbooks. They live in our homes. Next to air conditioners. Near south-facing windows. In dry rooms, humid rooms, small pots, and oversized pots. Those details matter.
That’s why I created LivePlant.
Instead of treating plants as identical, we try to understand the environment each plant is actually growing in. Because I believe better plant care starts with better questions.
Our Philosophy
I don’t think plants are just decorations we place around our homes.
Humans have spent millions of years surrounded by nature. Living completely indoors is actually a very recent part of our history. Maybe that’s why so many of us feel happier when we bring a little bit of nature back into our lives.
Personally, I think caring for a plant reconnects us with something we’ve always been a part of. Plants don’t live in textbooks. They live in our homes.
That’s why we believe better plant care starts with better questions.
Our Story
My journey with plants started almost ten years ago when my sister gave me a pothos as a housewarming gift.
I had never really thought much about houseplants before that. But something about taking care of a living thing and watching new leaves appear felt surprisingly therapeutic.
Unfortunately, my first pothos didn’t survive.
Instead of giving up, I bought more plants since i found it calming and therapeutic.
Over the next year and a half, one plant slowly turned into ten. I also made plenty of mistakes and lost about half of them along the way. Looking back, those failures probably taught me more than any care guide could.
As my collection grew, I started using different plant apps. Most of them were excellent at identifying plants, but I often felt disappointed by the care advice. The recommendations felt too generic and didn’t reflect the conditions inside my own home.
Eventually, I started asking AI for help. The answers were often better, but I found myself spending more time writing prompts than actually caring for my plants.
That’s when the idea for LivePlant started to take shape.
I wanted something that combined the convenience of an app with the personalization of AI, without requiring plant owners to become prompt engineers.
What began as a personal frustration eventually became LivePlant.
Mission
Our mission is to stand beside you as you build your indoor garden. We translate confusing symptoms into simple, personalized care tips. We remove the guesswork so you always know exactly what your plant needs to stay vibrant and healthy.
Vision
Our vision is to make personalized plant care accessible to every plant owner and help more people experience the joy of successful indoor gardening.
Why We Created LivePlant
As a plant parent myself, I used many plant identification and plant care apps. I found that while many of them were excellent at identifying plants, their care recommendations and watering reminders often felt too broad and generic.
Like many plant parents, our founder Dilip tried numerous plant care apps and noticed the same thing. Most apps were very good at telling you what plant you had, but not necessarily how to care for it in your own home.
The Problem We Saw
I felt that if everyone followed generic plant care guides, it could lead to unhealthy plants or even plant loss. What plant owners really need are personalized care tips and reminders created for their specific plant and its environment.
Two plants of the same species can require very different care depending on factors such as:
- Pot size and material
- Soil composition
- Drainage
- Temperature and season
- Indoor humidity
- Air circulation
- Window direction and sunlight exposure
- Nearby air conditioners, heaters, or radiators
However, many plant care tools provide the same advice to everyone. Generic watering schedules and generalized care tips can sometimes lead to overwatering, underwatering, or ongoing plant health problems.
We believe plant care should be personal.
How LivePlant Solves It
LivePlant was built to provide care recommendations based on the environment your plant actually lives in.
Instead of relying only on the plant species, we ask questions about your plant’s surroundings and growing conditions. This helps us create:
- Personalized watering reminders
- Customized care recommendations
- Disease diagnosis support
- Fertilizer schedules
- Repotting reminders
- Ongoing plant health tracking
When a plant becomes sick, environmental factors often matter just as much as the plant itself. By understanding those factors, we aim to provide guidance that helps plant owners make better decisions and improve their plants’ chances of recovery.
Both overwatering and underwatering can harm or even kill a plant. That’s why we ask questions before setting up automatic reminders. This allows us to create highly customized watering schedules based on your plant’s specific needs.
Overall, we have created an app that provides personalized care tips, watering reminders, repotting reminders, fertilizer schedules, and disease diagnosis.
How We Support Plant Owners
Over time, I realized that not everyone wants to download an app immediately. Sometimes people just want a quick answer.
Maybe they found a plant at a nursery and want to know its name. Maybe one of their leaves suddenly turned yellow and they are worried something is wrong. I’ve been in those situations myself, so I wanted to make help available even for people who don’t use LivePlant.
That’s why we built free tools on our website. Anyone can identify a plant, diagnose common problems, and learn more about plant care without creating an account.
For people who want something more personal, we created the LivePlant app. It lets us go beyond generic advice and provide reminders and care tips based on each plant’s environment.
At the end of the day, I just want to help more people enjoy this hobby. Whether you have one plant sitting on your desk or fifty plants spread throughout your home, I hope LivePlant can make your journey a little easier.
Thank you for taking the time to learn our story.
At the end of the day, LivePlant exists because I believe plant care should feel less confusing and more personal.
I’ve made mistakes, lost plants, and learned along the way, just like many other plant owners. If LivePlant can help someone keep their first plant alive, save a struggling plant, or simply enjoy this hobby a little more, then I’ll consider that a success.
Thank you for being part of the journey.
